This Client-Based Research I position works closely with the clinic staff to recruit and consent subjects to our protocol. The incumbent will examine fresh tissue samples and determine adequacy for tissue banking and research use. In compliance with national standards and study guidelines, this role will handle fresh tissue appropriately for storage and shipping including; snap freezing tissue for banking, sending fresh tissue to researchers, tissue disaggregation, and freezing cell suspensions. In conjunction with clinical research Disease Oriented Teams (DOT's) involved in studying these specimens, the Client-Based Researcher I will maintain the tissue repository and extract the associated data. This position will catalog tissue specimens into the Tissue Resource database and maintain Tissue Resource records for individual protocols and their handling procedures and shipping records. The incumbent will assist with the development and review of protocols associated with specimen storage and distribution.
This successful incumbent will have excellent communications skills in order to work closely with faculty pathologists, pathology trainees, pathology physician assistants, operating room personnel, and other physicians and scientists. Additionally, this position will assure that all clinical and laboratory research activity adheres to Federal, University of Wisconsin, and UWCCC policies, procedures and requirements. |
Responsibilities: | Designs methodology, conducts data collection and analysis, and prepares reports for client-based research. - 20% Assists with the development of research methodologies and procedures according to client-based objectives and specifications
- 5% Identifies concerns and recommends solutions to leadership
- 50% Collects and analyzes basic research data, conducts experiments and interviews, and documents results according to established policies and procedures
- 10% Prepares reports and materials and disseminates information to appropriate entities
- 10% Reviews and edits research protocols under general supervision
- 5% Trains individuals and groups on equipment operations, research protocols, and techniques within a specialized laboratory or research area

Qualifications: | Preferred Qualifications: - Experience with sample collection and sample processing is preferred. - Experience with quality assurance and good laboratory practices is preferred. - Experience with data bases is preferred including data entry, maintenance and generating reports.
