Job Summary:

The Senior Assistant Director/Assistant Director works in close partnership as a member of the SSC staff to serve as advocates and problem-solvers for all Miami students: exit interviews with students who are withdrawing/not returning to Miami; respond to student referrals from the One Stop and other University offices/alert processes via appointments, phone calls, and email exchanges; help students create an action plan to identify, address and resolve issues; connect students to appropriate University resources; represent the Student Success Center at University-wide events (ex—New Student Orientations, Admission outreach programs).

This position is eligible for remote work on a hybrid basis. Remote work is not a right, but a working arrangement that can be modified or revoked by Miami University at any time for any reason.

Duties/Physical Demands:

Manage a fluid caseload of students and conduct outreach/proactive communication with students based on data generated by the EMSS Data Analytics team and other University-wide initiatives
Develop a coordinated outreach plan/nudges for students based on institutional data, and strategies developed by University Retention and Persistence team
Create notes in EAB Navigate on student meetings
Oversee and assist with providing an infrastructure of support for GradU8 scholars including outreach, developing programs and course design and instruction
Assist efforts with Miami’s rapid response program for the first-year cohort and special populations with the Sr. Associate director. Assist in developing and coordinating all outreach efforts for the Oxford first-year cohort, including using and integrating predictive analytics across all initiatives.
Train and supervise student Learning Partner Mentors that help facilitate course material and mentor GradU8 students
Serve as the primary Student Success Center contact with the SSC Campus Administrator/EMSS Data Analytics team to schedule the timing of centralized communication to students regarding academic action, missed time tickets, need to register, warnings related to Winter and Spring registration, and intervention efforts as determined by the Sr. Director
Serve as advisor and mentor for the Miami First student organization. This program supports first-generation students. In addition, plan and organize National First-Generation Day (November 8th)
Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Assistant Director
Master’s degree in Higher Education or a related field with at least 1 year of experience
Experience may include graduate school assistantship
Master's Degree must be completed prior to the start date

Sr. Assistant Director
Master's Degree and at least 4 Years experience in higher education
Experience may include graduate school assistantship
Master's Degree must be completed prior to the start date

Desired Qualifications:

Demonstrated ability to think creatively to provide institution-level strategies for student success
Experience with EAB Navigate
Demonstrated experience implementing University-level programs to support student success
Experience teaching student success/transition courses
Strong record of cross-institutional collaboration
Ability to understand and synthesize data to guide decision-making
Evidence of strong verbal and written communication skills
Understanding of higher education retention, advising, and student development theories
Strong organizational skills and proven experience in making decisions in a fast-paced, data-driven environment.
