The Claremont Colleges Services (TCCS) is the central coordinating and support organization for a highly regarded cluster of seven independent colleges known as The Claremont Colleges. TCCS, with about 300 staff members, provides exceptional shared services to 9,000 students, and almost 3,600 faculty and staff. TCCS staff work in both student-facing services as well as administrative and operational services. Our numerous departments are located throughout The Claremont Colleges campus in the beautiful city of Claremont, California.
ABOUT THE POSITION:
The Claremont Colleges Services (TCCS) seeks an experienced IT professional with multifaceted skills for the position of Network Engineer.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The following are the fundamental duties and responsibilities of this position which the incumbent must be able to perform to fulfill the purpose and requirements of this position.
Perform complex network equipment configuration and installations.
Perform software upgrades including the uploading, testing and validation of network equipment software.
Perform work with anticipated impact on equipment serving multiple buildings and locations on the campus.
Troubleshoot, isolate, implement and recommend corrective action based on network problems.
Perform information gathering and review diagnostics related to network outages.
Assist in the creation of network designs with a focus on security.
Support multicast services.
Perform other functions, including but not limited to troubleshooting, bug reporting/mediation, new technology research, etc.
Participate in a team environment to complete project timelines and goals.
Effectively communicate and collaborate in a high performance team environment.
Contribute to diverse and cross-functional teams including teams with members from across The Claremont Colleges or on teams with members from external organizations.
Provide contributions to strategic network planning.
Support networking applied to campus research computing.
Lead projects which have a high impact or a high degree of complexity.
Provide knowledge-sharing for other The Claremont Colleges Services staff and other IT staff at The Claremont Colleges.
Work non-traditional hours and respond to on-call requests.
Wired Specialty
Install/replace optics or modules in switches/routers as well as make final physical connections for new links between backbone devices or backbone and building devices.
Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot network routing, and/or switching, and/or network security devices (such as firewalls or VPNs).
Wireless Specialty
Perform wireless surveys and document findings and recommendations.
Participate in client projects intended to continually improve/upgrade wireless infrastructure.
Provision and maintain enterprise wireless networks and related services.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFCATIONS
Required Qualifications:
Education/Training: You have a bachelor's degree in a computer related field, OR five (5) years of experience performing the essential functions listed above.
Experience: You have five (5) years of experience with:
networking technologies in a large network environment including one or more but not limited to routers, switches, firewalls, VPNs, and wireless.
wireless networking technologies in a large network environment including one or more but not limited to controllers, autonomous and controller-based AP's, switches, routers, etc.
Plus, some experience:
configuring and maintaining network management tools
working with vendor resources (customer service portals)
supporting enterprise wireless networks
Competencies:
Demonstrated knowledge of configuring and maintaining network management tools.
Demonstrated knowledge of working with vendor resources (customer service portals).
Demonstrated commitment to customer service.
Knowledge of LAN/WAN internetworking technologies.
Demonstrated knowledge of enterprise wireless networks and an understanding of related wireless client configurations.
Knowledge of wireless encryption technologies and connectivity standards.
Demonstrated effective communication and collaboration in a high-performance team environment.
Strong communications skills in English, both verbally and in writing.
Ability to communicate to audiences with a wide variety of technical aptitude and understanding.
Demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Demonstrate ability to balance multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
Able to gather and analyze data, such as system logs, for troubleshooting and reporting.
Willing and able to improve skills, abilities, and knowledge on an ongoing and regular basis.
Preferred Qualifications
Familiarity with basic scripting including the ability to write simple scripts.
Basic understanding of SNMP.
Familiarity with monitoring software (e.g., Prime, SolarWinds).
Cisco certification.
Experience in networking within higher education.
Experience using RADIUS attributes for dynamic VLAN assignments.
Experience with RADIUS and 802.1x deployments (with Network Access Control and Wireless).
Experience with DHCP (scopes, reservations, client interactions, etc.).
Experience with DNS (external, internal, cloud-hosted, etc.).
Pay: The pay range for this position is $9,167 - $10,000 per month.

Work Schedule: The regular hours for this full-time position are from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday for 12 months annually. May be required to work holiday, weekend, and/or evening hours. Regular hours may vary due to the needs of the organization or business unit. This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule to work partial hours remotely as approved by the supervisor.
