Job Description:
The Social Media Strategist is pivotal in showcasing KCU's mission, enhancing audience engagement, and ensuring the University's digital presence remains dynamic and impactful. This key position is responsible for creating and managing comprehensive social and digital media strategies to enhance KCU's brand visibility, engage target audiences, and drive institutional goals. This role involves developing compelling content, managing online communities, analyzing campaign performance, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to align efforts with broader marketing initiatives. Additionally, the strategist will serve as a blog writer, crafting impactful content that supports KCU's mission and priorities.
Essential Functions:
Content Creation & Strategy
- Develop, create, and curate engaging content across KCU's institutional social media platforms, ensuring alignment with brand voice and strategy.
- Focus on highlighting the student experience and supporting recruitment initiatives with dynamic storytelling.
- Write blog posts that align with KCU's priorities and resonate with key audiences.
- Conduct interviews and use multimedia tools (e.g., video, audio, imagery) to create compelling digital stories that reflect KCU's mission.
- Leverage innovative and emerging storytelling techniques to amplify exposure for recruitment-focused campaigns.
Community Management
- Act as the community manager for KCU's social media channels, monitoring, reviewing, and responding to comments and messages promptly and professionally.
- Track and analyze social media conversations relevant to KCU, offering context and recommendations to stakeholders, particularly in a sensitive or crisis situation.
Collaboration & Coordination
- Maintain and manage a shared social media editorial calendar by fostering strong collaboration with communicators across KCU's colleges, departments, and the Office of University Relations.
- Partner with internal teams to recommend strategies for improving social media efficiency, engagement, and resource utilization.
- Work closely with colleagues to ensure digital content aligns with institutional goals and supports KCU's mission.
Identify and build relationships with KCU social media influencers.
Collaborate with influencers to develop and promote authentic content that increases engagement and supports key University initiatives.
Monitoring & Analysis
- Utilize tools like Google Analytics, Meltwater, Cision platform insights, and marketing automation software to track, analyze, and report on the performance of social and digital campaigns.
- Provide actionable insights to improve campaign effectiveness, audience targeting, and return on investment.
- Stay current on digital marketing trends and adapt strategies to remain relevant and effective.
Digital Innovation & Trend Awareness
- Explore and experiment with new trends, technologies, and platforms to enhance KCU's digital presence.
- Working closely with Student Success and Enrollment Management, incorporate emerging digital storytelling techniques focusing on student recruitment-centered and student-focused initiatives.
- Monitor platform updates, algorithm changes, and best practices to ensure strategies maintain a competitive edge.
Essential Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Digital Media, or a related field.
- Proven experience in social media management and digital marketing.
- Strong skills in multimedia storytelling, including video editing and graphic design tools.
- Proficiency in analytics platforms (e.g., Google Analytics, platform insights) and marketing automation tools.
- Familiarity with SEO, SEM, and other digital marketing best practices is a plus.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
- Creative mindset with a passion for innovation and digital trends.
