Financial Services Specialist
This position is located on the Cornell University Campus in Ithaca, New York. You will be expected to work on the Ithaca campus, although you may be permitted to perform a portion of your work remotely.
Note: This position is for applicants that are qualified to work in the United States indefinitely. No relocation or visa sponsorship of any kind is available for this position.

Who you are:
As an individual contributor, The Financial Services Specialist (FSS) for the Office of Student Health Benefits reports to the Student Health Plan (SHP) Manager. The Office of Student Health Benefits has two functions: monitoring that all eligible Cornell students demonstrate proof of meeting the university's health insurance requirement and supporting the administrative operations and compliance of the Student Health Plan (SHP), a self-funded insurance product.
With oversight from the SHP Manager, this position provides analysis and account and sub-account reconciliations of the financial operations for all SHB and SHP accounts. Other responsibilities include:
- Preparing budgets
- Budget review procedures
- Financial forecasting and modeling
- Preparing financial reports.
- Develops, tests, runs, and documents processes for reconciliation reports, and analyses for both internal and external customers.
- Assists with regular and ad-hoc internal audits, supports annual financial audits, and monitors transactions to identify and resolve underlying data and transactional issues.
- Ensures accurate and effective financial controls.
- Maintains awareness and knowledge of HIPAA, FERPA, and privacy policies and procedures; and ensures information security.
Requirements of the position:
- Associate degree with at least 2 years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Organized with the ability to independently plan and prioritize responsibilities to meet competing deadlines while working under pressure.
- Strong analytical and reporting skills, experience with financial reconciliations and identifying and resolving variances at the transactional and account level.
- Effective customer service and communications skills, including the ability to communicate clearly, confidently, and concisely in verbal and written formats and ability to work as part of a team exercising independent, sound judgement and high ethical standards including maintaining confidentiality and discretion.
- Must be comfortable working in an environment where change in process/procedures is the norm.
- Demonstrated track record of taking initiative, being proactive, and remaining flexible and resilient.
- Experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and wellbeing.

Preferred qualifications for the position include:
- Bachelor's degree.
- Formal training in accounting.
- Experience in healthcare or insurance industry.
- Familiarity and working knowledge of Cornell accounting and budgeting systems and various data marts and data warehouses such as: Kuali Financial Systems, KDW, OAS and Longview Solutions helpful.
