The primary responsibility is to ensure that assistance and guidance are in place for faculty, students, and staff members engaged in the pursuit of external funding through grants and contracts and that federal and state regulatory obligations are met. Within this emerging research institution, the director will provide a depth of regulatory compliance expertise and demonstrated competencies in the management of a growing team of professionals dedicated to preaward functions.

Job Description
Based on extensive research administration knowledge, provide excellence in leadership for the area of Research and Sponsored Programs within the Office of Research and Innovation. Report directly to the Vice President for Research and Innovation to lead a hybrid/remote team and to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders in competitively securing and fulfilling externally funded grants and contracts. A key responsibility is to ensure adherence to federal, state, and local regulations while adhering to university policies and to sponsor-specific requirements. Assist all members of the office to foster a university-wide culture of innovation, inclusion, and compliance, committed to the mission of this premier student-centered institution of higher learning.
Essential Duties
Assist the institution in risk management by staying up to date with all relevant statutes, regulations guidelines, policies, and processes, and by effectively communicating these requirements across all university constituents
Develop and implement policies consistent with federal and state regulations, guidelines, university policies, and best practices
Provide leadership to staff on the interpretation and administration of all relevant statutes, regulations guidelines, policies, and processes
Review proposals for compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, institutional policies, and sponsor-specific requirements prior to submission
Serve as the designated authorized university official for sponsored projects
Oversee contract negotiation on sponsored projects
Monitor and assess the performance of direct reports and provide mentoring for success
Ensure excellence in assistance provided to university faculty, staff, undergraduate and graduate students, and personnel from external agencies and offices
Collaborate closely with the Office of Grants and Contracts in management of awards
Work closely with the Office of Advancement on the designation of sponsored awards and gifts
Solve complex issues related to sponsored projects at the proposal stage and post-award
Work strategically with the Vice President and Associate Vice President for Research and Innovation in support of the research enterprise, in assessment of unit performance, and in implementation of unit improvements
