CVEC is looking for an experienced Network Engineer to ensure the stability, integrity, and security of CVEC (Central Virginia Electric Cooperative) network services and to assist CVSI (Central Virginia Services, Inc., Firefly Fiber Broadband; a wholly owned subsidiary of CVEC) ) as required. This will include: planning, designing, developing, and securing wide area networks (WANs) and local area networks (LANs) across the organization. The Network Engineer will be responsible for planning and implementing CVEC's Cyber Security initiatives; as well participating in the installation, monitoring, maintenance, support, and optimization of all network hardware, software, and communication links. The Network Engineer will work closely with the engineering department or any other department to secure, integrate and support critical systems such as SCADA and AMR.
RESPONSIBILITIES&AUTHORITIES: Within the limits of established policies, budgets, and legal requirements; assumes responsibility and has commensurate authority as delegated by the Information Technology Manager for the performance of the following activities:
Design and deploy company WANs, LANs, and wireless networks, including servers, routers, hubs, switches, UPSs, and other hardware.
Configure networks to ensure their smooth, secure, and reliable operation for fulfilling business objectives and processes.
Lead strategic security planning to achieve business goals by prioritizing cyber security initiatives and coordinating the evaluation, deployment, and management of current and future security technologies.
Monitor network performance and troubleshoot problem areas as needed.
Ensure critical System Control systems (i.e. SCADA, AMR) are secure and reliable.
Acts as principal contact for System Control department in determining where Information Technology systems improvements can be achieved.
Recommend, schedule, and perform software improvements, upgrades and backups for all routers, switches, wireless access points and appliances.
Collaborate with management to assess near- and long-term network capacity needs.
Create and maintain documentation as it relates to network configuration, network mapping, processes, and service records.
Ensure network connectivity of all servers, workstations, telephony equipment and other network appliances.
Develop, implement, and maintain policies, procedures, and associated training plans for network administration, usage, security, and disaster recovery.
Conduct research on network security, products, services, protocols, and standards to remain abreast of developments in the networking industry.
Practice network asset management, including maintenance of network component inventory and related documentation and technical specifications information.
Monitor and test network performance and provide network performance statistics and reports.
Oversee new and existing equipment, hardware, and software upgrades.
Research, propose and manage all cyber security solutions and initiatives.
Perform network security audits, and system backups and recovery.
Interact and negotiate with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to secure network products and services.
Salary Range: $84,460-$105,000 per hour depending on experience

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
3-5 years of progressive planning, designing, developing, and securing wide area networks (WANs) and local area networks (LANs) across an organization is required.
Occasional out of town trips and meetings will be necessary including attendance at technical seminars, conferences, and professional meetings.
Degree in computer science/engineering or related field.
CCNA, CISSP or CCNP certifications are preferred.
Experience and success with LAN, WAN, WLAN, and WWAN design and implementation.
Experience with network capacity planning, advanced network security principles and network management best practices.
Strong, hands-on technical knowledge of network and PC operating systems, including Windows, Unix, and Linux.
Working technical knowledge of current network hardware, protocols, and Internet standards, including TCPIP, SSH, SSL, SMTP, NTP and Fiber Chanel Network Protocols.
Excellent hardware troubleshooting experience.
Competence with testing tools and procedures for voice and data circuits.
Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws.
Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
Able to conduct research into networking issues and products as required.
Ability to present ideas in user-friendly language.
Highly self-motivated and directed, with keen attention to detail.
Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities.

Must be able to make judgment decisions to plan logical sequence of steps, prepare flow charts, and develop programs for current needs which will be compatible with computer system growth and change. Skill in motivating people is necessary.
