Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution is currently searching for an Information Systems Security Analyst to join the Information Systems Department. This is a regular, full-time, exempt position, and is eligible for full benefits.
Reporting to the Manager, IS Security, the IS Security Analyst is responsible for supporting the mission of the information security program at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. This position is responsible for assisting in the implementation, coordination and management of internal and external information security efforts.
Maintains and operates the Institutions network security perimeter, including firewalls, intrusion detection and analysis systems.
Performs security monitoring and analysis of data from both on-premise and cloud-based security platforms.
Works with IS staff to manage the Institutions authentication and Identity Access Management systems and processes (Cloud/2FA/AD/LDAP). Ensures compliance with policies and best practices.
Works with the Manager, IS Security in the design and administration of the Institutions central logging and SIEM platforms.
Assists in maintaining and operating the Institutions vulnerability management systems.
Diagnoses and repairs information security problems on information systems, including issues arising from viruses, malware and improper system configuration.
Informs and trains WHOI community about information security threats and appropriate safety measures. Assists in developing and recommending policies and guidelines for secure computing practices and information protection.
Assists with the management and programming of the Institutions access control systems.
Works with the Manager, IS Security to satisfy DoD security requirements by serving as the Information Systems Security Officer for restricted access projects.
Performs other duties as required.
Education & Experience
Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, or Associate's degree or equivalent plus at least 5-8 years relevant experience.
Experience diagnosing and resolving computer security issues on Windows, MacOS and Linux operating systems.
Experience monitoring, detecting and remediating network and Internet based security threats.
Solid understanding of local and Internet networks, client/server environments and information security procedures.
Training in NISPOM information security procedures. Advanced training in information security, intrusion detection and analysis is desirable.
Experience in the areas of vulnerability protection, threat management and advanced firewall management is desirable.
Ability to handle sensitive information in a confidential manner.
Ability to obtain a DoD security clearance at level Secret or above.
Strong ability to communicate both in writing and verbally with both technical and non-technical personnel about computer and security matters.
Ability to obtain & maintain a DoD security clearance at level Secret or above.
