Perry Pelos Sr. EVP, CEO of Commercial Banking Wells Fargo & Company
Perry Pelos is the CEO of Commercial Banking at Wells Fargo, where he oversees teams dedicated to helping small, mid-sized, and large commercial and corporate companies succeed financially. Commercial Banking teams include the business comprised of Core Market, Middle Market, and Specialized Industries, Treasury Management, and Wells Fargo Commercial Capital. Perry serves on the Wells Fargo Operating Committee and is based in Portland.
Prior to his current role, Perry led Wholesale Banking from 2016 to 2020. During 2016, he served as head of Commercial Banking Services and oversaw several important businesses, including Business Banking (serving companies with $5 million to $20 million in annual sales), Middle Market Banking (serving companies with $20 million to $1 billion in annual sales), and Corporate Banking (serving large corporations with sales of $1 billion or more), as well as Treasury Management and Insurance.
From 2009 to 2015, Perry headed Middle Market Banking, with responsibility for more than 25 divisions nationwide. Before that, he was division manager for the Middle Market Central division. In 1998, he was appointed head of the Corporate Banking division, and before that, he held several positions in Middle Market and Corporate Banking. Perry joined Wells Fargo in 1987 in the company's Commercial Banking training program.
Perry received a B.A. in economics from Northwestern University and an M.B.A. in finance and accounting from Northwestern's Kellogg School of Management. Perry also serves as a Board Member for the Oregon Historical Society.
The Position Transformation and Data Integration Leader
Reports to Perry Pelos, Sr. EVP, CEO Commercial Banking
This newly created executive position will be responsible for leading the customer and technology transformation for Wells Fargo Commercial Banking (CB). This leader will partner across the Wells Fargo enterprise to accelerate the transformation of one of the world's leading commercial banks to increase efficiency and profitability.
Transformation Strategy and Execution: Lead the strategy and execution of a common Commercial-wide technology platform to simplify and automate critical work, and serve as the common system of record for customer activities (such as onboarding, loan accounting, loan delivery, auto-underwriting for lower risk/complex credits)
Data Insights and Integration: partner with Data, Management & Insights with Commercial Bank and Enterprise to create reporting, data and analytics that enhance Commercial's data integrity requirements and publish reports/analytics for regulators, risk and transformation programs requiring ongoing governance requirements, a common CRM strategy and client relationship planning approach and tools, to develop new business and provide customer pipeline reporting to enable the LOBs to grow revenue with infrastructure that increases banker efficiency and profitability
Partner with Commercial Bank LOB Leaders and Enterprise partners such as: Strategy & Execution Office, Technology, Independent Risk Management and Control, Data Management & Insights, Digital and Agile teams, Enterprise Complaints, and Enterprise Operations organization and others
Act as critical driver and champion of a 'One Commercial Bank' culture to encourage transparency simplification, centralization and digitization to drive consistency, efficiency and an improved customer and team member experience
Possess meaningful knowledge of the risk management framework, including risk identification, risk appetite and strategy, risk-related decisions, processes and controls, risk analytics and governance, as well as digital security, regulatory, and compliance requirements.
The Candidate The successful candidate will be expected to stay current on all major business initiatives and able to expertly and clearly communicate across the business and enterprise at all levels. This leader must be able to provide oversight and guidance that ensures LOB and company objectives are achieved (i.e., growth, risk, customer experience).
Critical success factors for this role will include an ability to manage effectively in a matrixed organization, develop partnerships with many business and operational/functional areas, and lead effectively through influence. The role requires a sense of urgency, a passion for results, and personal accountability for achievement.
