The Impact You'll Make in this Role As a Manufacturing Engineer, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people around the world. The person hired for the position of Manufacturing Engineer will be responsible for initiating and conducting broadly defined technical tasks/programs within Aearo Technologies, Indianapolis manufacturing environment. This person will apply knowledge and experience to develop and refine both new and existing processes for optimal safety, quality, and efficiency. This operation will require complex and diverse solutions which drive results in EHS, quality, customer service, cost reductions and new product qualifications. This position is in Indianapolis, IN at Aearo Technologies LLC, a 3M company. Here, you will make an impact by: - Identify, initiate, and lead projects to improve process safety, quality, service, cost, capacity, and productivity through engineering and Lean Six Sigma methodologies
- Raise the bar for process capability on manufacturing equipment using a variety of toolsets which also include standard work development, tier reviews, and kaizens which lead to resolved equipment downtime issues, optimize quality and productivity, and improved service
- Efficiently troubleshoot defects and variation, performing root cause analysis and applying systemic problem-solving skills and robust solutions
- Support rapid resolution of customer complaints; including timely response, and implementation and communication of corrective actions.
- Establish, foster, and cultivate an extensive network of support (laboratory, quality, financial, manufacturing, engineering, sales and marketing) by proactive communication to help facilitate completion of assignments.
Your Skills and Expertise To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications: - Bachelor's degree or higher (verified and completed before start) from an accredited institution in a science or engineering discipline
- Two (2) years of experience in a manufacturing environment in a private, public, government, or military environment
Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include: - Minimum five (5) years of experience in manufacturing engineering within a manufacturing and/or industrial setting with demonstrated strength in engineering/technical skills.
- Extrusion and web handling/coating experience.
- Training and experience in Lean methodology, statistics, SPC, DOE, and Six Sigma are beneficial; Green Belt/Black Belt certification with good project leadership experience.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with strong communication skills both verbal and written, analytical and organizational skills to manage different priorities
- Ability to prioritize, multi-task, and remain flexible to changes; responds with a sense of urgency. Self-starter/self-directed that lead with high energy and passion
