Research Professor in Data Science Graduate School of Operational and Information Sciences Naval Post Graduate School, Monterey, CA The Data Science and Analytics Group of the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) is in an exciting period of growth and seeks applications for a Non-Tenure Track position of Research Professor (Assistant/Associate/Full) in Data Science. Your primary role will be to assist with all aspects of research. The responsibilities will include coordinating internal and external research activities for DoD-relevant data science research projects at NPS, communicating with NPS Research Office and leadership about execution of data science activities, and serving as the DoD focal point for data science research at NPS. Advances in machine learning, artificial intelligence, and data analytics that have produced competitive advantage for commercial enterprises such as Amazon, Google, and Tesla are absolutely imperative if the Department of Defense (DoD) is to turn massive amounts of sensor data into actionable information for commanders. NPS has established the Data Science and Analytics Group (DSAG) to coordinate and focus the unique talent, infrastructure, relationships, and geography of NPS in order to provide an educational platform, research programs, and advisory services to organizations within the Department of Defense that seek to gain insights from data. - Leadership experience in directing research/analytics teams.
- Experience with database technologies (SQL/NoSQL) and proficiency in multiple programming languages (Python, R, etc.).
- Proficiency in delivering results via data science approaches, leveraging analytics and data management tools at scale.
- Experience with DoD needs and information processing paradigms.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Experience in grant and proposal writing as well as budget execution.
- Evidence of teaching aptitude at the graduate level.
- Ability to work independently to produce accurate and timely work in a busy, fast-paced environment.
- Skilled in oral and written communication.
- U.S. citizenship is required.
- Eligibility to hold a DoD security clearance; strong preference for candidates with current TS/SCI Clearance.
