General Summary: Mass General Brigham's Enterprise Data and Digital Health (EDDH) initiative is working to expand access to digital tools and technologies that address significant health care challenges. By providing resources and coordinated support, EDDH is helping to take innovative care solutions that have been successful at our academic medical centers and make them available to all institutions across the system. EDDH will advance foundational investments in data, analytics, technology, AI, and machine learning.

Position Summary The Enterprise Support Team works closely with the Architecture, Deployment and Network and Cloud Engineering teams as well as various working groups in the organization to continue the evolution of the Partners Virtualized environment (VMWare) and Windows server platforms. The team is responsible for administration, and support of all Partners Windows based servers and Virtual infrastructure located both within the Partners Data Centers (NDM or MDC) and with our various Cloud providers.
Each Engineer confers with peers on technical problems, procedures and troubleshooting methods. Consults with and advises users and other support groups of server issues. Projects long-range requirements for server administration and expansion. Plans and recommends machine modifications or additional equipment to increase system capacities. Analyzes the results of server monitoring and recommends changes to improve performance, processing and utilization. Periodically may perform some project management and coordination of efforts with server development team and vendors.
The Server Engineer II is responsible for the operation, administration and maintenance of all Windows and Virtual based servers which were built to Partners standards. S/he will also be responsible for monitoring and maintaining a VMware ESX platform for CPU, memory and disk utilization. S/he recommends and implements machine modifications or additional equipment to increase system capacities. S/he analyzes results of server monitoring and implements changes to improve performance, processing and utilization. S/he proposes, maintains and enforces server polices, practices and security procedures.
The Server Engineer II needs to have a working level of knowledge and experience with a broad base of adjoining technologies including networks, storage area networks, databases, backups, and application-based software. Additionally, they must possess strong troubleshooting abilities to maintain high levels of system uptime and performance.
The Server Engineer II will be part of a 24x7 on-call rotation to support critical patient care servers, with primary on-call support expected every 11 weeks. Principal Duties and Responsibilities
• Performance monitoring, technical support and advanced troubleshooting of complex server problems • Data integrity restores and disaster recovery • Documentation of problems and solutions • Maintain the health of all Windows based servers (Physical and Virtual), and virtual infrastructure (ESX hosts) • Server migrations and upgrades (memory, CPU and drives) • Act as technical lead during migrations, upgrades or problem situations • Server problem analysis and recovery • Maintain Service Now tickets and update customers on a daily/weekly basis • Assist other direct team members, as well as teams and groups inside and outside of ITS • Communicate with vendors in resolution of incidents • Conform to and support system management disciplines such as the Corporate Change, Asset, and Problem Management procedures • Use the Partners HealthCare values to govern decisions, actions and behaviors. Qualifications • BS in Computer Science or equivalent combination of education and experience required • 5+ years of IT experience (extensively with Windows and VMware) • 3+ years of server administration experience in a large networked environment • Strong awareness of networking and internet protocols, including TCP/IP, DNS, SMTP, HTTP and distributed networks. • Some knowledge of Active Directory • Experience in disaster recovery exercises • Experience in a SAN environment • Experience with HP and CISCO-UCS rack-mountable servers • Experience with Tivoli Storage Management (TSM) is preferred but not required. • Interest in Cloud Engineering and its impact on greater business practices. • Experience working with OpenStack, Linux/UNIX, Rackspace, and Docker. • Working knowledge of cloud providers including Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Cloud Platform (GCP).

Working Conditions MGB has implemented special remote working policies due to COVID-19. These policies are subject to change; however, it is currently expected that this position will work remotely (e.g. from home) full time through June 2021
If onsite: • Cubicle with some extended time in a large computer room environment. Climate controlled environment. • Regular participation in on-call which includes carrying and responding to an electronic pager 7/24 during the call period. This may also require dialing in or coming in to effect change. • Occasional night and weekend work as the business requires. • Remote home access equipment and communication will be provided and is required. • Limited physical activities to lift, move and carry light to medium weight objects. • Occasional need to bend or kneel and handle low voltage cables. • Travel to multiple Partners sites may be required depending on business needs. Occasional travel to professional seminars and conferences.
Supervisory Responsibility No direct supervisory responsibilities; may indirectly provide technical leadership and guidance to less seasoned and new staff
Fiscal Responsibility • No direct budgetary responsibility; demonstrates fiscal responsibility by effectively using Partners resources • Must be cost conscious in vendor dealings & negotiations.
