Corporate Risk helps all Wells Fargo businesses identify and manage risk. The team focuses on several key risk types, including conduct, credit, financial crimes, information security, interest rate, liquidity, market, model, operational, regulatory compliance, reputation, strategic, and technology risk. The group provides leadership, enhances communications, assists with problem identification and solutions, and shares best practices. In addition, the group provides an enterprise-wide view of risk, assists management and our Board of Directors in identifying and monitoring risks that may affect multiple lines of business, and takes appropriate action when business activities exceed the risk tolerance of the company.
This role sits within the Operational Risk Foundational Programs (ORFP) function. ORFP is responsible for defining and setting the methodology and standards for the operational risk foundational components, including Risk and Control Self-Assessments, Operational Risk Events, Key Risk Indicators, Scenario Analysis, Operational Risk Capital & Stress Testing – and driving awareness over the same. ORFP is dedicated to providing direction, guidance, tools and oversight to help businesses throughout the firm effectively manage operational risk and ensure an adequate integration of loss and capital analysis in support of CCAR.
Specifically, the role will sit within the Operational Risk Foundational Programs Controls Team. This is a new team within ORFP to establish integrated solutions and structure across ORFP to ensure that processes and controls are in line with industry best practice standards and regulatory expectations. The role will require the incumbent to take on a senior lead role and help develop the tenants of the team – inclusive of ongoing activities that will help ensure that key controls are in place over ORFP BAU processes. The individual will be responsible for the following:
Develop and build a central control utility to ensure that ORFP programs have key controls in place that are designed in an effective manner, normalized, conceptually sound, operating effectively and are aligned with regulatory requirements and industry best practices. This includes ORFP related governance structures and reporting measures.
Establish and maintain monitoring controls across ORFP to evaluate effectiveness; reporting trends, emerging risks in a timely manner. This will also include development of ORFP dashboards / heatmaps to assess data across the enterprise to verify compliance with baseline ORFP policy requirements.
Lead collaboration efforts with the leaders across ORFP teams to identify, coordinate and centralize documentation of key controls to ensure fulsome end-to-end mechanisms that enable structure and integration across the OR foundational program elements.
Support efforts across ORFP to continuously re-assess & re-design the standards and related controls over the programs (where appropriate and as needed).
Facilitate and execute detailed end-to-end assessments to identify control gaps / deficiencies within processes across the ORFP teams to determine enhancements required and work with respective teams to ensure proper design, implementation and operating effectiveness of key controls.
Verify on an ongoing basis that the detailed policies, operating manuals and desktop procedures in place within ORFP support the holistic target operating models and contain the key controls and parameters for which the areas are meant to operate within.
Analyze, review and report on issues owned by ORFP. Further, lead efforts with relevant ORFP issue owners to review that the design of control enhancements to resolve audit and regulatory issues are effective and sustainable; this includes to ensure that corrective actions have been satisfactorily addressed and properly evidenced prior to submission to requisite parties for validation and closure.
Assist in the development of senior management information reporting, and materials for key stakeholders (e.g. regulators, Audit, etc.) and forums / committees in support of the ORFP activities.
Partner, as is appropriate, with the systems teams within ORFP, and across other applicable teams, to evaluate existing tools and define business requirements (as appropriate) that will support tactical and / or strategic solutions that could further enable embedded workflow / control and structure.
Promote a consistent understanding of objectives, approach and expectations (especially as it relates to risk and controls) within the team.
Cultivate relationships with multiple executive leaders across the three lines of defense.
Build a brand within the ORFP Controls team that is recognized as being a center of excellence for control capabilities across the operational risk foundational elements, which drives forth continuous improvement and enhancement efforts within the operating environments.
10+ years of experience in risk management (includes compliance, financial crimes, operational risk, audit, legal, credit risk, market risk, IT systems security, business process management) or 10+ years of financial services industry experience, of which 7+ years must include direct experience in risk management
