Francis Parker School is a coeducational independent day school in San Diego, California with 1300 students in grades JK-12. Overlooking Mission Valley, two separate campuses serve students in Lower School – junior kindergarten through 5th grade; Middle School – 6th grade through 8th grade and Upper School – 9th grade through 12th grade. As a college preparatory school Parker offers a comprehensive program that includes twenty-five advanced placement courses as well as a rich palette of electives – all designed to meet the individual needs of our students.
The Director of Operations and Facilities reports directly to the Head of Finance and Operations and is responsible for the oversight of the physical plant, building maintenance, campus grounds, energy management, campus security and transportation. Transportation, and Maintenance and Facilities on both campuses will report to this position.
Oversee the physical operation of the entire school and its programs.
Manage the careful maintenance of buildings and grounds and cleaning programs that keep the school’s appearance in exemplary condition.
Ensure facility readiness for day-to-day events as well as special events.
Manage and engage the Food Service for the school.
Work with and support the Director of Security, Environmental Health and Safety to maintain the School to the standards of safety set by the School in all aspects of the facility.
Devise and manage an annual departmental budget.
Supervise staff members within the facilities department: buildings and grounds crew
Work with the Manager of Transportation to ensure effective Transportation services for the Home to School program as well as the day to day needs for Athletics and Program related field trips.
Arrange bids and develop specifications for all outside contractual work.
Oversee the work of all outside contractors related to facilities, maintenance and transportation, directly or via departmental managers, to ensure compliance with contractual agreements and budgetary restrictions.
Develop and implement and ongoing equipment replacement program.
Establish policies and protocols that meet all required maintenance standards as required by law and work with the administration to ensure compliance with all regional, state, and federal permitting and laws as they impact the school.
Assist and execute the implementation of needed security and safety in the facility and maintenance arena as determined by the Safety and Security team.
Serve on the Safety Committee.
Supervise receiving function.
Assume responsibility for other projects as assigned by the Assistant Head of School for Finance and Operations
Assist with special construction projects, manage equipment inventory, establish and create inventory system for equipment alongside the department of Information Technology, working with IT and Security to ensure the electronic surveillance, student tracking and WIFI are in good repair and reliability at all times.
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, or related discipline
5 - 10 years of experience in a supervisory/management role in construction, maintenance/repair; working knowledge of at least three trades is required (maintenance, plumbing, electrical, HVAC systems, carpentry, construction)
Prior experience in an educational or similar institution
Demonstrated success in managing a large facility
Strong supervisory, organizational, technical, and analytical skills
Proven success developing and balancing an annual budget
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal
Problem solver with a high degree of diplomacy
Experience with blueprints and building specifications
