The UMKC Missouri Institute for Defense & Energy is currently seeking a Research Consultant. In this position, the Senior Grant Writer will expand conceptual knowledge of the MIDE research function and broaden capabilities for the overall MIDE team. Strong candidates will have knowledge of best practices within research and apply analytical knowledge developed from prior work experience.
Identify, automate, screen solicited and unsolicited funding opportunities that align with the mission of MIDE
Provides full lifecycle editing and writing support for grant submissions, including managing timelines and project milestones
Serve as liaison between Principle Investigators (PIs) and the Office of Research Services Pre-Award team for PeopleSoft page requests and required proposal documents
Edit draft proposals to create highly competitive submissions and review proposal feedback for potential resubmission opportunities and/or submission to other grant agencies
Provide guidance to PIs and Program Leads to clarify opportunity expectations/requirements with program officers and attend conference/consortium meetings to identify new MIDE opportunities
Prepare and edit figures and tables to increase impact and clarity
Develop programs to improve the engagement of current faculty in research and writing grants
Other duties as assigned by Director of Research and Institute Programs
Promotes a team atmosphere among all members of MIDE
Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience and at least 3 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired
Excellent written communication skills
Exceptionally organized, efficient, and motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently and as part of a fast-paced, growing team
Proficiency in all areas of Microsoft Office
Master's degree in English or Communication Studies. Degrees in other areas may be considered with a proven record of high quality technical writing
1-3 years experience in research and grant writing. Prior grant experience working with federal agencies a plus
1-3 years experience with Program Management
Prior experience managing equipment requisitions and purchasing
Ability to hold and maintain a United States Security Clearance
Full Time/Part Time
Starting salary range is $47,476 to $65,468
