Commerce: Ohio SBDC Export Assistance Network (EAN) Director works with Ohio businesses to improve and expand exports to international markets. The EAN director serves as the first point of contact for new-to-export businesses, as well as those companies expanding into new global markets. Services include export readiness assessment, international marketing plans, market research, export compliance education, and access to export financing.
Duties: Implements Ohio Small Business Development Center (SBDC) Export Assistance Network’s export promotion and assistance strategies throughout the assigned region by:
Providing in-depth counseling to determine business’ needs and abilities relative to exporting.
Developing confidential export strategies for companies.
Scheduling company visits to review product marketability, financial needs and production capacity.
Assessing export readiness of Ohio firms.
Advising companies on export regulations and procedures.
Following up with companies for accountability.
Provide management and technical assistance as needed in export products and/or services.
Research and analyze economic and trade opportunities in selected world market regions to determine target areas for Ohio products.
Participate in training events as instructor or moderator. Speaker for national conferences.
Coordinating and hosting seminars and workshops to promote exports and provide training to businesses;
Coordinating closely with other economic development partners in the region.
Attending training sessions for professional development to keep skill level high.
Maintain client control records and data.
Provide reports on client counseling and training on international trade.
Assist in efforts to evaluate EAN programs, services and procedures.
International travel to assist with Ohio companies visit foreign countries to evaluate and select partners.
Develop and monitor program budget and metrics.
Work closely with director and/or other agencies involved in international trade to facilitate the operations of the EAN.
Require: Graduate of a four (4) year college or university with a degree in International Business Administration, Economic, Education, Business, Marketing or other related field; and a minimum of 10 years of experience with international trade, sales, or marketing; general knowledge of principles and practices of international business as well as country specialization; high level of interpersonal, communication and analytical skills; ability to handle multiple assignments, organize and establish work priorities with minimal direction and supervision; ability to teach and providing training; country-related experience (managing foreign offices, trade missions, foreign trade show, etc.); skills to design and deliver new training programs based on the needs of clients; existing network in the international arena to be able to counsel and introduce clients to the services required to complete the export transactions and sale; experience in international methods of payments, export financing and other financial programs; understanding of documentation required for export shipments and the process to complete and file export forms; understanding of export licensing procedures (ITAR, EAR, OFAC, etc.); aability to travel as required and holder of valid driver’s license; proficient in English and with the strong ability to speak in public. This position requires the successful completion of the Certified Global Business Professional (CGBP) course regardless of education or experience within the first year of employment.
Desire: Master's degree; previous work for a government agency in international trade. Proficiency in a second language is desirable.
