Reporting to the Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor, the Senior Vice Provost for Academic Quality Assurance (SVP-AQA) leads the university in the work of academic quality assurance and continuous quality improvement. The SVP-AQA oversees the functions in academic affairs associated with academic innovation and academic quality assurance, and coordinates information systems, governance structures, policies, data and communications across the university to support and improve the academic enterprise. The SVP-AQA serves as the Provost's designee and representative to ensure that regular academic operations across the university and all academic units adhere to all appropriate regulations and standards of federal and state agencies, University of Missouri System, the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) and specialized accreditors. The SVP-AQA also leads the processes of analysis, design, development and implementation of new academic programs, the monitoring of student outcomes assessment, and academic program review for continuous improvement. Working with academic unit leaders, the SVP-AQA oversees university-wide foundational curricular experiences, interdisciplinary and experimental programs (such as General Education, University College, Math Pathways, etc.). In collaboration with academic leaders (Academic Deans, Dean of Students, Vice Provosts and Vice Chancellors and Faculty leaders), the SVP-AQA ensures that the university provides an exceptional and engaging educational experience for students, an eteaching and research experience for faculty, an empowering professional experience for staff, and success in achieving metrics of UMKC's strategic plan in alignment with peer public urban research institutions. The SVP-AQA is an integral part of the Provost's senior leadership team and must work effectively with faculty and administration across academic and administrative units of the university to accomplish stated goals and objectives.
In leading a culture of continuous improvement and academic innovation, the SVP-AQA will oversee and give guidance to a broad array of academic programs, services and support units. These include Academic program support (e.g., accreditation, assessment of student learning, academic policy and infrastructure) and Academic Innovation and Program Development (e.g., instructional design services, general education, and undergraduate research). The SVP-AQA chairs the UMKC HLC Accreditation Executive Committee and co-chairs the UMKC Academic Policy Council, as well as serving as the Provost's delegate to various system-wide committees and as a member of relevant university councils and committees.
Working with the Provost and academic leaders across the university, ensure UMKC complies with all appropriate regulations and standards, and continuously improves the quality of academic programs and services.
Lead Deans, Chairs and Directors, Vice Provosts, direct reports and faculty leaders in implementation of initiatives to ensure the academic infrastructure is student-centered, integrated into the culture of the university, and undergoes continuous quality improvement.
Build and maintain strong relationships with faculty and staff to support academic program quality that promote student success.
Lead development of new academic programs and academic innovation that provide a highly engaging student experience and high quality curriculum and instruction.
Direct the ongoing work of ensuring that academic programs promote and encourage student persistence and success (General Education, University College, Undergraduate Research, Writing Center, etc.).
Lead the ongoing work of ensuring that academic infrastructure and services promote and encourage student persistence and success (degree audit, degree mapping, course scheduling, transfer and articulation agreements, etc.).
Inform leadership about current research, national trends, and best practices related to the work associated with academic innovation and academic assurance.
Create, revise, implement, and assess student learning outcomes and monitor academic programs.
Report outcomes of academic programs and services related to the University's goals as outlined in the university's 2018-2028 Strategic Plan within the portfolio assigned.
Use data analytics to assess the delivery of programs and services to support quality program delivery and ensure efficient use of institutional resources.
Work with colleagues to interpret data analytics in planning and decision making to improve the student experience and student success.
Provide unit leadership in the hiring, development and evaluation of all staff reporting to this position in order to provide a culture of care for students and colleagues.

Earned Doctorate or terminal degree in an academic discipline
At least 5 years of demonstrated success in leading programs and initiatives at a comprehensive research College/University
Successful leadership and management experience in higher education
Understanding of higher education culture, practice, policies and regulations
Ability to be visionary and contribute to the successful attainment of strategic priorities
Passion for a high standard of accomplishment and a devotion to continuous improvement
Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
Experience collaborating with diverse stakeholders
Successful College/University teaching experience
Terminal degree and educational experience appropriate for tenure at UMKC
A Master's degree in a relevant area and 10 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired OR a Bachelor's degree in a relevant area and 12 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired.
10 years of demonstrated successful leadership at the College/University level
Record of experience leading University accreditation work
Prior experience as an accreditation liaison officer or a peer reviewer
Demonstrated leadership in leading and implementing university wide initiatives to support achievement and success of diverse student population
Demonstrated successful experience utilizing data analytics to improve academic programs and services
Demonstrated successful experience using data tools to identify new academic programs and moving through successful implementation in collaboration with academic units
