Under the direction of the Security Chair and in consultation with the leadership of the JCRC-NY Commission on Jewish Security, the Security Executive Director manages and supervises a network of staff and consultants implementing the mission, scope and functions of the JCRC-NY Commission on Jewish Security; and supports the development and adoption of related best practices among the full gamut of Jewish communal institutions in the New York area.
In order to ensure the safety and security of all of the stakeholders (leaders, staff, congregants, students, members and more) attending and participating in the multitude of Jewish communal institutions in the area, the Security Executive Director will promote and enable an all-hazards approach to the threats and hazards facing Jewish communal institutions in the New York area.
Essential Job Functions
The Security Executive Director works with the Security Chair to mitigate reasonably foreseeable risks to personnel, assets, and interests of Jewish communal institutions, and promote a safe and secure environment therein. The Security Executive Director should have knowledge of the full gamut of New York’s Jewish communal institutions and be able to assist the Program’s staff and consultants to gain access to NY’s synagogues, schools, community centers, multi-site agencies and other organizations.
The Security Executive Director is responsible for managing, supervising and evaluating the staff and consultants for the Program, and work with the Security Chair to select staff -- including Regional Security Managers and Functional Security Managers -- and consultants. The Security Executive Director works with the Security Chair to perform regular evaluations of the programs, personnel and contractors associated with the Program; and to report such information to the leadership of the JCRC-NY Commission on Jewish Security. The Security Executive Director and the Security Chair maintain ongoing contact with SCN and build relationships throughout the SCN network, in order to ensure that the New York Jewish community receives all of the benefits available through New York’s participation in the that network.
The Security Executive Director is responsible for being the primary individual at JCRC-NY accompanying UJA-Federation in fundraising efforts in order to provide ample resources to this security initiative.
The Security Executive Director is responsible for evaluating the abilities of the Regional and Functional Security Managers and their work products. The Security Executive Director may assign staff to work in teams, as necessary, in order to assure that all Jewish institutions receive high-quality assistance across the varying specialties of safety, security and preparedness. The Security Executive Director shall work with the JCRC-NY CFO to allocate and monitor regional funds.
The Security Executive Director is responsible for the development and implementation of a comprehensive database of Jewish institutions in the NY area and acts as the Regional Security Manager for Staten Island.
Strong analytical, problem resolution and negotiation skills
Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-moving environment and continue to meet the needs of the position.
Ability to interact effectively and professionally with federal, state and local law enforcement, homeland security and emergency management officials; and Jewish communal, political and communal leaders.
Demonstrated ability to work with the full gamut of New York Jewish community institutions.
Exhibit the potential to assume the duties and responsibilities of the Security Chair.
10 years+ Leadership experience in corporate, military, local law enforcement or related fields.
Strong writing and presentation skills.
Willingness and ability to pass a security one level background check.
Recognized certification in a related subject from DHS or industry certification program.
