Reports to the Public Safety Operations Manager. Accomplishes assignments and tasks assigned by Supervisory/Management personnel to ensure that the University's operational needs are met in as efficient a manner as possible. Provides services as a Public Safety Officer within Department of Public Safety to provide security, parking control, and assigned duties as necessary. Ensures professional, courteous, fair, consistent, and safe service delivery throughout the University and assigned areas of responsibility. Utilizes the tenants and principles of the University's Mission Statement as the founding basis for decision making and position performance. Performs access control in accordance to University and Department Policies. Provides information and services to all faculty, staff, students, and visitors in a friendly, courteous, and helpful manner. Responds immediately and appropriately to all emergency, contingency, or disaster situations. Responds as soon as possible to all calls assigned by the Public Safety Dispatcher and/or other appropriate entity. Performs all required duties appropriately. Documents all incidents and informs Public Safety Dispatcher and/or Management of all actions taken. Completes all incident reports in an objective manner, writes in a clear and legible style and submits all incident reports and accompanying documentations according to Department policy. Maintains accountability and chain of custody of all property, evidence, and equipment. Provides escorts duties to ensure the safety of the requester in accordance with University policies. Patrols the University property and grounds, documents and acts upon all deficiencies and/or violations of policy. Notifies appropriate personnel and Management of serious incidents. Observes, evaluates, and timely acts upon security camera monitoring and alarm systems. Maintains operational awareness and attention to duty requirements without distraction. Reflects the friendly, courteous, helpful and professional attitude of the Department at all times. Embraces the concept of, and participates in, Community Policing. Performs all duties as a Public Safety Officer in accordance with University and Department policies and State laws and regulations.
This position may perform duties within a variety of weather conditions and settings including patrolling via desk duty, fixed post duty, or vehicle, foot and or bike. This position requires work schedule rotations, mandatory shift assignments, work at night, weekends, and holidays. This is a uniformed position.
This position has a 12-month Probationary Period. This position is part of a collective bargaining agreement after the probationary period.
Must have a High School Diploma or GED, preferred Associates Degree. Preferred experience in security, military, or law enforcement. Ability to understand written Policies and Procedures so to perform necessary duties. Ability to write reports so to meet position requirements as listed above. Possess a valid Driver's License. Some knowledge of current computer operating systems. Must possess strong analytical problem solving and decision making skills while addressing complex and/or dynamic situations, under stressful conditions or within limited time constraints. Must be able to maintain clearances, training, and performance standards as perscribed by the University and Department.
