TheAssociate Security Analyst will be a part of the Security Assessment andIncident Response (SAIR) team and work with various security, IT, and businessunits throughout the institution to protect university assets with the use ofinformation security tools, policies and procedures, and standard securitymethodologies. The Associate Security Analyst will also work with InformationTechnology, business units, and other entities to monitor, investigate, andremediate security issues.
TheInformation Security team within Vanderbilt University's Information Technologydepartment provides cyber security services to the institution and associatedpartners. This position will work closely with the Manager of InformationSecurity as a part of the Security Assessment and Incident Response (SAIR) teamas well as with other members of Information Security and various entities bothinside and outside of the university.
Duties and responsibilities
Responds to operational securityservice(s) tickets and determines best course of action
Monitors andanalyzes the university's networks for security breaches to protect resources including systems, networks,and data
Investigatessecurity breaches and other cyber security incidents following applicableprocesses and procedures while maintaining flexibility to ‘think outsidethe box’ during the investigation to find all affected systems
Works toresolve detected vulnerabilities to assure a high-security standard is maintained
Implementssecurity measures and operates software to protect systems and informationinfrastructure
Crafts and maintains documented standards, processes, and procedures aligningto university culture, policyand standard methodologies
Develops userguides and functional documentation as needed
Helps developuniversity-wide best practices for Information Security team
Takes part incommunity outreach events to cultivate robust and sustainable workingrelationships between security, business, and technology teams to foster across-functional team environment
Staysup-to-date on information technology trends and security standards
Researchessecurity enhancements and makes recommendations to management
Installs andoperates information security related software
Supports24x7x365 cyber security operations
Profile ofan Ideal Candidate
A Bachelor'sDegree in a computer or information system related field from an accreditedinstitution of higher education is necessary.
SSCP, GSEC,Security+, Network+, CCENT, and/or equivalent certifications are preferred.
Cyber Securityrelated certifications are preferred.
Ability todevelop and document technical content isnecessary.
Experience with security tools such as Splunk (SIEM),Rapid 7 vulnerability scanning, and forensicinvestigation tools is highly preferred.
