This position will work in the Information Security team and specialize in designing and building effective services across the University. Individual will determine the potential impact of design decisions; assess and maximize security Return on Investment (ROI); consult on IT projects with a focus on security best practices; mentor and train student teams and coworkers; and act as an escalation point for security analysts on the team.
This position will require an innovative, critical thinker with a strong aptitude for problem solving and the ability to complete time-sensitive deliverables under pressure and across multiple roles and hierarchies.
MSU Information Technology provides the primary leadership for strategic, financial, and policy initiatives affecting information technology (IT) across MSU. MSU IT offers technology resources that support MSU’s mission of providing education, conducting research, and advancing engagement.
Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills
Bachelor's degree in computer science or information systems, with coursework in an information technology specialization related to the area of employment; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in an enterprise organization; knowledge and experience in two or more core security areas (Identity and Access Control, Application Security, Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery, Encryption, Governance and Risk Management, Legal Regulations and Compliance, Security Operations, Security Architecture and Design, or Network Security); experience with Security Event and Incident Management (SEIM) systems such as Splunk, Q1 Labs QRadar, or Humio; experience in IT system administration or a related role requiring analysis, prioritization, and problem solving; experience researching, remediating, and/or mitigating Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVEs); experience interpreting and implementing change requests for managed security device platforms; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) by (ISC)² • Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) by ISACA • Experience with Linux operating systems including system administration and CLI • Experience with Microsoft Windows Server 2012 and Active Directory • Knowledge of operating system hardening technologies such as Microsoft EMET and Security-Enhanced (SE) Linux • Experience with network analysis tools such as TCPDump and Wireshark • Knowledge of vulnerability management systems such as QualysGuard and Rapid7 Nexpose • Knowledge of cloud infrastructure technologies such as VMWare vSphere, VMWare NSX, Microsoft Hyper-V, Amazon Web Services, and Microsoft Azure. • Knowledge of Intrusion Detection Systems such as Juniper IPS or Snort • Knowledge of computer networking, including TCP/IP, IPSec, and communication protocols in LAN/WAN deployments • Knowledge of project management and in the use of project management tools (e.g. Microsoft Project) • Excellent interpersonal/communication skills (both verbal and written) • Ability to understand, discuss, and explain technical issues with diverse audiences • Two years of experience with Security Event and Incident Management (SEIM) systems such as Splunk, Q1 Labs QRadar, or Humio
