This position has university-wide responsibilities and operates under general supervision to support the security reviewing, assessing, consulting, and information product development activities of the University Information Security Office (UISO). Serve as senior liaison and investigator to assist the staff and management of the Vice President for Information Technology (VPIT), University Information Technology Services (UITS), university departments, external collaborators and service providers in evaluating their technology environments for potential system and information security vulnerabilities. Through established practice of assessment and reporting provide feedback as to level of risk, and subsequently the evaluation and implementation of appropriate protections. Expected to grow and maintain a significant depth of knowledge in many various technology areas (including many aspects of computing, data and voice networking, and security software) to participate in the evaluation of proposed software or hardware to understand security or data integrity implications.
REQUIRED: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field and three years of advanced systems analysis/system administration experience.
Combinations of related education and experience may be considered.
A demonstrated knowledge of the IP protocol suite, the Open Systems Interconnect (OSI) model, and specifics relating to TCP and UDP protocol behavior, and interdependencies with the applications suite (IE: DNS, SMTP, HTTP, etc.).
Knowledge of Microsoft Windows operating systems, Active Directory, and the utilities used in system administration, system and kernel customization, security analysis, system logging, and security incident diagnosis is necessary. Demonstration of professional oral/written communication skills and interpersonal skills.
Limited Criminal Histories (LCH) checks will be necessary for all finalists.
One year of computer incident response and investigation experience. Demonstrated ability to implement security tools in small- and large-scale vulnerability assessments (IE: vulnerability scanners, password cracking tools, etc.). A demonstrated knowledge of UNIX operating systems and the utilities used in system administration, system and kernel customization, security analysis, system logging, and security incident diagnosis. Practical experience with one or more relational database packages. Experience in a university-based technology environment. An understanding of cloud technologies (PaaS, SaaS, IaaS) and the ability to clearly and effectively document the areas of primary responsibility and areas known risks.
