Iowa State University is seeking applicants for an IT Security Analyst to be filled at either a level I or II. Under general supervision, this position performs technical procedures necessary to ensure the safety of information systems at ISU, and to protect systems from intentional or inadvertent access or destruction. The candidate will perform regular scans of systems and applications and works with end users and IT professionals on remediation of security issues. This position also participates in incident response and investigation of computer security incidents.
In addition to the responsibilities noted above, the higher level II duties involve independent engagement with end users and management staff to train and educate on complex security issues and identify appropriate and applicable resolutions. This role will also help lead incident response efforts.
Information Technology Services (ITS) provides core computing, network services, enterprise systems, and information security resources to the students, faculty, and staff of Iowa State University. ITS partners with IT professionals from around campus to provide more specialized IT resources to ISU's academic and business units.
The successful candidate will have strong communication skills with the ability to identify and resolve complex issues; leadership and teamwork skills.
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree and 2 years of related experience; OR a Master’s degree and related experience.
Preferred Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field. - Experience identifying and solving information security related problems. - Experience installing, configuring and using open source and/or commercial security tools. - Experience administering network security technologies including firewalls, router ACLs, authentication mechanisms, IPSEC, VPN, server hardening, PKI technologies and IDS/IPS systems. - Experience with security incident response, especially forensic experience is a plus.
