The University of Missouri-St. Louis (UMSL) and the School of Social Work (SSW) invite candidates to apply for an assistant professor position beginning the 2019/20 academic year. We are looking for candidates with an active research agenda, an earned doctorate, and the ability to contribute to our mission to engage students and faculty in professional education, research, and service to advance knowledge and competence to promote human and societal well-being. An MSW plus two years of post-Master's experience is preferred, and all qualified candidates will be considered. The successful candidate for the position will teach courses for both the BSW and MSW programs. Salary is competitive and will be based on experience and qualifications.
The School of Social Work. With nearly 500 BSW and MSW students, UMSL's School of Social Work is a vibrant, collegial, and growing program. It is the only public graduate social work program in the eastern part of Missouri and draws a diverse group of traditional and non-traditional students. The SSW is recognized for excellent teaching, service, and scholarship. The SSW is 1 of 13 UMSL programs receiving top 50 national rankings in the high research classification by Academic Analytics. Pilot research funds, teaching enhancement awards, and travel grants are available at the campus and university levels. The SSW houses the campus Creating Whole Communities program and it has close ties with the Non-Profit Management and Leadership program, the Gender Studies Program, the Trauma Studies Center, International Studies and Programs, and the Community Innovation and Action Center.
The University . UMSL is the largest public research university in eastern Missouri, and the third largest in the state, providing an academic home to nearly 11,000 on-campus students and conferring more than 3,000 degrees annually. UMSL offers a wide range of baccalaureate and masters degrees, two education specialist degrees, and 17 doctoral degrees. UMSL is a part of the University of Missouri land-grant system and is classified as RU-H (high research activity) and as a Community Engaged Campus by Carnegie rankings. The larger region boasts more than 30 rivers and creeks, including the Mississippi and Missouri rivers, and the Ozark Mountains, with countless opportunities for hiking, camping, and other outdoor adventures. West of St. Louis, Missouri's wine country marks the beginning of the Katy trail, one of the nation's longest bike trails. The city and region offer ample opportunities for both urban and rural social workers to conduct research, engage students, and become involved in the community.
