Job Description: The University at Albany, IT Services unit is seeking a qualified Information Security Analyst to join the Information Security Services unit.
The Security Analyst works with the CISO in developing and maintaining UA information security capabilities, including implementing security controls (e.g., vulnerability management, firewalls), responding to information security incidents, and monitoring of administrative and academic systems and networks for policy enforcement and compliance; works with cross-functional teams to design and implement security initiatives; serves as a resource person on specific information security technologies and technology-related compliance requirements.
Duties and responsibilities:
Maintain and develop existing security tools and services
Perform security risk assessments of University systems and networks
Recommend remediation strategies and technologies for mitigating risks
Evaluate current and future requirements and develop or recommend technical and operational solutions accordingly
Develop specifications and standards for equipment, software, and procedures in support of University policies
Assist in analyzing results from intrusion detection systems, intrusion prevention systems, network mapping software, log analysis, and other tools to detect, respond to, and mitigate information security related vulnerabilities and incidents
Maintain metrics and prepare reports
Perform trend and root cause analysis
Liaison with various University constituencies on behalf of the CISO as needed
Serves as a resource person in assessing systems, processes, and projects against compliance requirements, control objectives, and security best practices; interacts with internal and external technical staff and consults with project teams at various stages of project cycles
Requirements: Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology or related field from a college or university accredited by a U.S. Department of Education or internationally recognized organization
Three years' work experience in an information security function or responsibility; this work should be detailed in a cover letter.
Practical experience managing or working with:
Intrusion detection systems
Vulnerability management tools
Firewall configuration and policy settings
Excellent written and oral communications skills
Ability to work with multiple constituencies within a culturally diverse environment
A thorough understanding of network topologies, architectures, protocols, and addressing schemes
Knowledge of and a demonstrated ability to operate Unix and Windows-based security tools
Practical experience with one or more relational database packages
Experience in a university-based technology environment
