Information Technology Services (ITS) delivers Enterprise information technology services to the campus under the leadership of the campus Chief Information Officer (CIO). IT Security (a department within ITS) is responsible for the design, deployment and administration of network, endpoint, application and information asset protection systems. IT Security works closely with the IT Infrastructure and Operations department to provide the campus-wide network/security infrastructure.
The Senior Network Security Engineer (IT Security Analyst 4) is responsible for designing, deploying and managing the core campus security infrastructure for a 100,000-node network, one of the largest in San Diego. The environment offers exposure to a wide variety of security threats and challenges along with the most cutting-edge security technologies and market-leading enterprise security products. The candidate is also responsible for the development of scripts/tools that integrate the various network security systems and automate incident response and security operations. The position works closely with network and security architects across the campus to design robust network security solutions.

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Security or a closely-related field AND six (6) years of related experience in information security in an enterprise environment OR ten (10) years of recent relevant experience.
Demonstrated experience deploying, automating and integrating network security infrastructure (firewalls, VPN, IDS/IPS, SIEM, application gateways/proxies), with expert knowledge of networking technology TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, NAT, routing protocols, netflow, and packet capture/analysis.
Expert in developing scripts and tools using a scripting language (such as Python or Perl).
Expert in Linux administration, Bash shell scripting, authentication, vi, grep, awk, sed, regex, makefiles, etc.
Demonstrated ability to effectively prioritize tasks, manage time, organize activities, deliver overall high productivity, and to assume responsibility for the successful completion of technical projects.
Ability to work well with others and collaborate with network engineering staff, to provide work direction and instruction to subordinate team members, to facilitate communication and coordinate activities among team members.
Professional certifications such as CCIE/CCNP, GIAC, CEH, or CISSP are preferred.
