The UMKC division of Marketing and Communications is seeking a Web Content Strategist. The primary function of this position is website content development and maintenance strategies.
The person in this role must be able to develop content strategy for university websites. They must have a solid understanding of information architecture and content strategy. This position may also make updates to websites and write, fact check, proofread and rewrite website copy. They must have knowledge of grammar and AP style, familiarity with university audiences and an ability to work productively and harmoniously with all types of people. This person should be able to proactively audit university websites for content strategy needs and SEO best practices.
Duties include but are not limited to:
Content strategy development for top level university pages and school, unit and department websites
Information architecture and sitemap development
Researching and information gathering to remain up-to-date on industry best practices
Training both clients and internal creative staff on best practices for web
Reviewing existing content and making changes and/or suggestions to improve for usability and SEO
Working and meeting with clients
Providing suggestions for social media strategy
Email content strategy
Reviewing analytics as requested and providing analysis and recommendations for both web and social media
A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.
One year of experience as a writer or editor specifically for websites, especially in a marketing context; experience with social media strategy; knowledge of PowerPoint and other Microsoft Office products.
Successful candidates will be familiar with current web trends and techniques and be a self-starter. They will be team-focused, provide outstanding customer service and be able to balance short and long-term projects.
Ability to work with non-technical content providers to train and assist in updating web content for a variety of websites.
Desire to work in a fast-paced, professional, collaborative, innovative and flexible environment.
Familiarity with website usability and accessibility best practices.
Experience working with WordPress and/or Cascade Server, as well as Emma, iModules or Slate is preferred.
Experience working in a marketing and/or communications environment, and particularly in a university setting is highly desirable.
Experience reviewing and analyzing website analytics a plus.
Full Time/Part Time
Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
