Information security technicians are responsible for all aspects of ensuring institutional information systems data availability, integrity, authentication, confidentiality, and non-repudiation. In collaboration with other network infrastructure personnel, this position implements and monitors security measures and controls for institutional information systems and networks. The Security Technician advises the Director of Compliance that systems adhere to established security standards and governmental requirements for security.
- Assists in the development and execution of security policies, plans, and procedures. - Under general guidance designs and implements security measures; logical access, network intrusion detection and forensics; information system security incident handling; and access control. - Recognizes information security-related problems by identifying abnormalities and reporting violations/exceptions to IS Security Manager or CISO. - Implements information security improvements by assessing current situation; evaluating trends; anticipating future requirements. - Identifies and determines security violations and inefficiencies by conducting quarterly information system audits of logical access, information systems, and compliance to regulations. - Upgrade systems by implementing and maintaining security controls. - Protects and oversees system by defining and maintaining logical access privileges, access control structures, and processes. - Designs and implements security objects utilizing role based access control (RBAC) standards, incorporating principles of least privilege and separation of duties. - Assesses training needs, determines training approaches and develops course materials. Instructs users and computer support staff. Consults on desktop productivity tools/software; - Independently installs and configures hardware/software for work needs, and provides training and educational events for security topics. - Assists others with performing compliance-related activities associated with relevant organizational compliance requirements, such as PCI DSS, FERPA and HIPAA. - Maintains quality service by following organizational and industry standards and maintains technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing publications. - Designs and implements Security Awareness measures for campus educational campaigns, and may lead the activities. - Provides backup and support to other staff members on the security team as is needed. - Other duties as assigned
Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Security, or related field. Demonstrable experience implementing and administrating information security processes, systems, and controls. Working knowledge and demonstrable experience with audit methodologies and processes. Familiarity with established information security standards, principles and frameworks, such as ISO/IEC 27001:2013, and NIST 800-Series. OR any combination of education and experience which clearly demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of the job.
Preferred Qualifications CISA, CompTIA Security+, CDFE or others that are security field related Demonstrable experience working with Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) products such as Splunk, Familiarity with the 20 critical security controls and how to implement them. Working knowledge of compliance laws, regulations and standards such as; PCI DSS, HIPAA & FERPA. Demonstrable experience with ERP system (PeopleSoft/Banner/etc.) security; define and maintain logical access privileges, role-based security, access control structures, and processes.

Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule
Salary: $4065/month with periodic increases up to $5334/month
Working Conditions: Work is performed in an indoor office setting with frequent in-person interactions. It is essential to be able to remain at a desk/computer work station for prolonged periods of time, perform extensive data entry and other computer-related tasks and create/maintain filing systems for departmental records. Some evening or weekend work and/or occasional travel may be required.
