Job Requisition Number: 25118. Information Security and Policy provides policy and security oversight for institutional information and campus IT resources, providing a structured approach to information risk management for the campus.
The Information Security Operations team is a close-knit group of talented information security professionals performing critical information security functions for the institution, including monitoring/detection, vulnerability scanning, incident/breach response, and network registration. This position supports the activities of the Security Operations team as a first-line, “Tier 1” Security Analyst, including incident handling, security log/alert review, and security consulting. The successful candidate should have sufficient knowledge and experiences to analyze and respond to security incidents of moderate scope and complexity, and exercise appropriate judgement to escalate more complex issues to senior analysts on the Operations team.
•Provide assistance to clients in execution of incident response •Research and analyze security alerts which may indicate efforts to compromise campus IT resources, and escalate alerts requiring further review by senior analysts •Monitor security incident status and workflows, escalating unusual or problematic incidents to senior analysts for review and further action •Advise members of the campus community with general questions or concerns about the security configuration of campus IT systems •Track and monitor incoming security incidents, applying security concepts and established campus procedures to ensure appropriate incident response•Knowledge of key information security concepts, functions, and general best practices •Minimum of 5 years general IT support or service delivery experience •Strong general IT knowledge and experience, including support, troubleshooting, and security best practices for a variety of desktop/server operating systems and software •Familiarity with UC Berkeley campus and system-wide (Office of the President) security policies and standards •Proficiency in working as part of a collaborative, cross-functional security team •Good skills in communication, organization, prioritization, and customer service •Bachelors degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training
