Wellington Management Company, LLP is seeking a quantitative analyst with expertise in ALM and Regulatory Capital Management to join the Global Risk and Analytics (GRA) group within Wellington Investment Science. GRA is responsible for investment risk modeling and measurement, security analytics, and investor risk engagement and oversight.
The ALM and Capital Strategy Analyst will work with specialists in the GRA team and Wellington Information Technology to build a scalable Enterprise Risk Management capability to support Wellington's Financial Reserves Management business development and investment process. The candidate must possess strong quantitative modeling skills and domain expertise in regulatory capital and reporting requirements, tax law, and actuarial modeling for insurers.
The Analyst will partner closely with the Financial Reserves Management ALM and Capital Strategy team, which provides asset allocation, capital management, and other advisory services to global insurance clients and prospects. Good communication skills and the ability to manage deadlines are critical. In addition to deep domain knowledge and technical ability, success in this role requires the ability to work with clients and prospective clients on technical matters, to communicate clearly and without jargon or excessive detail, and to understand unique client requests.
The candidate should be able to work independently and within a team environment. Good communication skills are critical as the successful candidate will individually manage projects and will also interact closely with investment teams, product management and business professionals.
Build quantitative models for our clients' investment risk management needs and create output useful for presenting results to clients
Produce regular ALM projections and information for various purposes, including cash flow testing, stress testing, economic capital estimates, and liability and asset cash flow modeling
Build scalable enterprise capabilities for ALM and ERM that are well documented and maintain a strong control environment
Work on economic scenario generation and asset return simulation for strategic ALM and regulatory scenario analysis
Assist clients with rating agency and regulatory requests
Perform analysis of potential changes to investment strategies and make recommendations
Strong quantitative and analytics skills, including the ability to understand concepts and assets situations in a timely manner
Actuarial designation at the level of an Associate of the Society of Actuaries or Casualty Actuarial Society, or higher
Strong knowledge of asset classes that insurance companies invest in, including the risk/return, liquidity, and cash flow characteristics of these asset classes
Ability to articulate complex investment strategies/processes in a clear and concise manner and comfort in interacting with clients during meetings and over the phone
Working knowledge of insurance regulations and rating agency requirements, including AM Best BCAR, S&P CAR, NAIC RBC, and CCAR
Experience modeling loss projections of various asset classes
Passion for solving problems and sharing solutions to exceed the standards of the client
Knowledge and experience with industry standard actuarial modeling systems
Ability to be a self-starter and work independently, but also cooperatively in a close team environment
Programming ability in Python or other high level language and knowledge of SQL
