The Senior Director of Technology - Data Science & Big Data is responsible for defining and leading a technology strategy that advances machine learning, automation and big data capabilities across UnitedHealthcare. The position will lead a team which includes a Director of Data & Security and a Director of Application Development & Support. Together, the technology team is responsible for the big data environment, big data development, analytic application platform, application development & integration, and solution support. ARA drives analytic technology innovation, analytic R&D, analytic solution development and pilots. ARA then works with IT to transition solutions to enterprise production and support. As such, this position will manage a tight alignment with UHC IT (serviced by Optum Technology) and the UHC CIOs for the various lines of business within UnitedHealthcare. Daily responsibilities include continued innovation and development of our analytics, automation and big data platforms, development and execution of our data strategy, managing internal engagements, meeting project and deliverable timelines, ensuring the accurate and timely completion of deliverables. Additional responsibilities involve working with Analytics Directors on staffing needs, strategic technology trend identification, monitoring project progress and completion, issue resolution and technical solutions related to data, data flow and advising on technology needs. A strong candidate would have experience leading teams who apply advanced analytics technology (supporting predictive analytics, machine learning, and artificial intelligence), big data technology, big data modeling and development, and automation technology. The successful candidate will have experience in application development, analytical infrastructure development, and business solution consulting. Experience in the medical or pharmacy policy space, fraud-waste-abuse detection, marketing analytics and healthcare economics is also a plus. You'll enjoy the flexibility to telecommute* from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges. Primary Responsibilities:Management of the infrastructure that supports ARA (provisioned via platform as a service from Optum Technology) Define and execute our big data strategy including design and development of the data environment required to support analytics for both batch and real-time analytics. Define and execute processes to help ensure and enforce the security of our data, while enabling agile development and access of the data by business users, power users and developers. Define and develop and analytic platform which provides the software needed to explore, discover and develop production analytic solutions which integrate with business applications. Define and foster best practices in software design and code management. Define and execute a tiered support model for analytic solutions working with business partners and IT. Support analytic technology innovation and promote a culture of patents, papers and internal collaboration. Work with ARA Portfolio Directors to develop data onboarding roadmap as well as data archiving. Monitor and manage the efficient operations of our data, users and solutions.
Required Qualifications:Undergraduate degree 7+ years of experience in the development of enterprise solutions in the areas of Advanced analytics (predictive analytics, machine learning, artificial intelligence) 7+ years of Big Data (Technology and Data Strategy) 7+ years of experience leading technology teams Experience with analytical platform/data management platform integration Experience with open source analytic platforms (R, Python, Scala, etc.) and commercial platforms (SAS, SPSS, Azure, etc.) Experience delivering analytic solutions on the Hadoop stack (MapReduce, Sqoop, Pig, Hive, Hbase, Flume) Experience integrating analytic models within business applications for real-time scoring Knowledge of NoSQL platforms (e.g., MongoDB, Couchbase, MarkLogic etc.) Demonstrated experience consulting with executive management on technical solutions Demonstrated experience setting and executing a technology strategy Ability to navigate and drive results in a matrixed environment Ability to document and communicate complex technical concepts Effective in fast-paced team-oriented environmentPreferred Qualifications:Master's degree in computer science or related field Demonstrated experience with infrastructure planning, scaling, and administration, including demonstrated experience with Big Data platforms Experience with healthcare data, specifically in Medicare and Medicaid analytics, provider and consumer analytics, and Fraud, Waste, and Abuse (FWA) analytics Careers with UnitedHealthcare.
