The J.Warren McClure School of Information and Telecommunication Systems (ITS) seeks a full-time Visiting Assistant Professor starting Spring Semester of the 2017/2018 academic year, and continuing in the Fall and Spring Semesters of the 2018/2019 academic year. Depending on the needs of the school, the appointment may be extended for an additional academic year.
Preferred candidates will possess a Ph.D. or Master's degree in an IT-related field and at least three-years of relevant work experience. Candidates who are ABD in an IT-related field will also be considered, as will candidates with a Bachelor's degree in an IT-related field and who possess at least five-years of relevant work experience. Past teaching experience is also a plus.
We seek candidates who understand the relationships between information and telecommunication technology and the use of that technology by businesses.
The Visiting Assistant Professor is expected to teach 3 classes per semester on the Athens campus, and to assist with undergraduate advising and the supervision of the ITS internship and mentorship programs. He or she will also work with the ITS faculty on curriculum planning, development of new courses, and general strategic planning. Teaching assignments will likely include ITS 2010, 2140, and 2300.
ITS was founded in 1985 as an undergraduate program; a Master's degree program was added in 2003. ITS currently serves about 90 undergraduates and 30 graduate students in both a residential and an on-line version of the program. The curriculum addresses technology, management, and policy. ITS operates three state-of-the art teaching labs and a small back-end datacenter with a production-grade VMWare installation used for both teaching and research. A Network Administrator oversees operation of the labs, assisted by several graduate students. Graduate students also assist faculty as lab assistants and graders.
