Monitors network activity and ensures information is protected from unauthorized users. Identify, research, report and resolve security violations. Provides guidance to IT departments on resolutions of violations. Participates in response to incidents. Works to improve monitoring of malicious activity.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Perform security operations monitoring which includes but is not limited to: tracking and monitoring of malicious software, vulnerability scanning, attack detection and log collection.
Identify potential security risks and report to Information Security Manager. Open and track tickets with various IT departments
Assist IT departments in the tracking and removal of malicious software.
Analyze and research to validate active sites and determine whether malicious and determine the best course for blocking. Configure server rules for blocking as appropriate.
Produce reports and metrics concerning incidents and their mitigation. Identify trends and make security recommendations to manager.
Perform other duties as assigned
Associates degree or equivalent and 2 years of relevant IT work experience .
Working knowledge of TCP/IP and DNS
Unix skills and scripting experience such as PowerShell/Perl/Python/Bash
Knowledge of BRO, SIEM products, OpenDNS, and IDS/IPS technologies.
Some knowledge and experience with API integration
Familiar with networking technologies e.g. Firewalls, VPN concentrators, routers and switches
Familiar with systems technologies e.g. e-mail gateways, web services, database servers and file hosting
Knowledge of current malware threats and mitigation options with some incident response experience.
Ability to quickly assess the specific needs of the customer to determine course of action.
Differentiate between problems and symptoms and develop solutions to address overall problem.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; detailed oriented
Ability to resolve routine and complex problems based on existing documentation, training and resources.
Ability to convert technical information into easily understandable terms
Must possess an aptitude for patience, professionalism, tactfulness and empathy.
Must be enthusiastic and committed to helping others.
Strong team-oriented interpersonal skills; ability to effectively interface with a wide variety of people
Must possess strong written and oral communication skills; ability to outline situations in terms that can be delivered in both business and technology settings.
Strong customer focus and ability to manage client expectations
Preferred Associates or Bachelor’s degree in related field. Preferably in Science, Technology, Engineering or Math.
SANS GIAC, ISC2 SSCP or other security related certification preferred, but not required.
Relevant work experience in desktop support, systems or network operations with emphasis on security.
The hiring range for this position is $54,288 -$70,553 annually.
